You can put all the controls you want out there for folks buying from registered dealers but that doesn't help with the private market. Unless you make it totally illegal to buy a gun from a private citizen, gun control will not help.
I purchased my gun from a private citizen because he was able to get a military discount on a new gun, saving me a few hundred dollars. I had no background check done. Granted, I'm not some thug or nut job but it was very easy to buy.
