When I do my show, I don't consider myself your typical "professional" Style DJ. I'm very particular however. I want my show to be something the listeners enjoy. They can tune in for the music and my "unprofessional-ness".
As for outrageous prices and fancy-smancy equipment. I do DJ the very occasional event (Such as my nephew's wedding), with nothing more then my laptop, an external hard drive loaded with MP3s, Huge ass home stereo speakers and a small amplifier running from the laptop to the speakers. All the equipment is either made by me or in some fashion or another modified by me. Outside a few small pieces of equipment, I haven't spent that much.
