NJ lets same-sex couples join in civil union Monday

Good times...I guess it's a start, always seemed to me like a goofy way to spend the government's time and energy on something that in most cases probably shouldn't even matter.

If they wanna live together and stuff that's cool.

There's some stuff ya can't do as a gay couple, simple science.. but things like this, no biggie.

I'll never understand why some people won't accept that gays have the same rights heterosexuals do.

In any event, I'm happy for the people in NJ...this is a step in the right direction.

Nearly the same rights.

I don't care if they wanna get married and stuff, s'cool. But biologically, everything isn't the same. Kids is a different matter entirely.

Well, they can still have kids with sperm donors and IVF and adoption. Saying gay people would be different as straight people as parents is another matter entirely.

It's not how they'd be as parents, it's how the kids would be treated by others.

I think we talked about this before didn't we?

You stick a kid in a regular school who has 2 dads.. and he's gonna be picked on, ridiculed and tormented for the next 12 years.

I live in Columbus and there has been alot about gay couples here raising kids alot of them make better parents then the kids who have a mother and a father not to mention all the single parents out there. Most kids just want to be loved and protected In our town its not that big of a deal. I guess it is in other areas though.

Yeah, we did talk about that. I think I agreed that the kids probably would get picked on, but kids pick on kids no matter what...like, you could have a mom-and-dad-kid whose name is something retarded like "Blah" and he'd get picked on too.

I view this as generally a non-issue but I see where you're getting at.

One of my best friends through school was raised by two moms, and she really didn't get any crap at all. And I live in one of the most conservative states ever. Like Rice said, all kids get picked on - if it isn't that it will be something else.

I am thrilled with New Jersey right now, and hope more states jump on the bandwagon.

This could be a cultural thing.

School in the UK is waaaaay tougher than the US.

Man, I had to fight everyday and I was one of the big kids.
