So, four years later, still tons of suicide bombings, soldiers getting killed/maimed/injured/demoralized, no closer to rebuilding Iraq than we were back then (dunno about Afghanistan, and dunno if that is a function of the media only reporting the negative crap although it is apparent that the negative will probably outweigh the positive at this point), and no signs of change until W goes away.
My not-so-tongue-in-cheek solution: Pull the troops out, and tell the civilians that they can have their country and their oil. Then nuke them if they complain.

Re: Senate leader labels Iraq war as "worst foreign policy mistake" in US history
I think Vietnam rates as the worst mistake, but Iraq is rapidly getting there. I actually agree with your tongue-in-cheek solution, with the exception of the "nuke 'em" part. Most countries just don't want us there, or in their own countries, I say pull all our troops home, revuild our own bases, and take care of our own country. Leave our National Guard at home where they fucking belong, stop sending them overseas at all. They're the NATIONAL GUARD. They shouldn't be deployed outside of the NATION. That's what the regular military is for. Stop doing that.
With the end of communism, we just don't need to be deployed all over the world anymore. It's time to go back to the way we were prior to WW II. Let the world take care of its own problems. It's not our job.

I agree. This shit is getting tiresome. Every day, we're losing more and more troops for something that isn't even helping! The Iraqis aren't glad to have us there anymore and each day that passes causes the hatred to build for the US.
Although $10 says that if we were to go back to a pre-WWII stance on foreign problems, we'd get bitched at for not caring.

Re: Senate leader labels Iraq war as "worst foreign policy mistake" in US history
We'd get bitched at either way, so fuck the rest of the world. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I say we pull them all home, and then, if a country WANTS our help, they can ask us, and we determine that we'll send help for a certain period of time, and that's it. They come back home again. Period.

I think there comes a time when a country can't be purely isolationist though, which is what happened to China in the 19th and 20th centuries (big time technological power and then stuck in a rut) and the US during WWII (Pearl Harbor). Although Pearl Harbor was their fault
Anyway, ThunderVamp9 for President
