Supreme Court rejects huge punitive reward against Philip Morris

Story here

1. The short form of the SCOTUS decision reported in the article kinda sucks.

2. Not that the tobacco company should have been sued for that much anyway...I mean, it's not like they force you to put the cigs to your mouth in the first place although the nicotine inside the cigs probably keep you wanting more.

This article is a stepping stone for discussions about frivolous lawsuits, how much industry should be sued for and whether there should be limitations to punitive damages and more emphasis on personal responsibility on the part of the consumer.

Re: Supreme Court rejects huge punitive reward against Philip Morris

I am ALL ABOUT personal responsibility. These lawsuits against tobacco companies for cancer, and McDonalds for obesity are completely ridiculous. What ever happened to free will? I could see if these companies were handing out cigarettes and hamburgers free to all, but you actually have to go to the store and pay money for these items. That right there should be proof that you're doing it on your own.
