I'm sure most of you have seen the little flap that went on when the editor of the Colorado State University student newspaper published a scathing editorial entitled "F**k Bush"...
The repercussions
My thoughts:
1. First Amendment-wise, the guy had every right to say what he did. I have not read the article but I have a good guess of what he wrote. I don't think he should be fired for speaking his mind.
2. I understand why businesses would pull their advertising support out of the newspaper because in a sense the editorial title was very profane and irresponsible and whether or not it is a college newspaper, there is a proper way to convey your opinions, and this was improper. As the editor, he probably should be fired for not thinking of the bigger picture. If he had been a non-employed contributor to the newspaper, it might have been different, though I'm sure a more responsible editor would have chosen to alter the title.
Feel free to post thy thoughts.
