More on the breast feeding topic
What are your thoughts on people who buy breast milk from "breast milk banks", "nurse maids" and other strangers? I thought the whole point of breast feeding was that it came directly from the mother of the infant.
I am appalled that someone would purchase breast milk from a stranger and feed it to their baby! Am I the only one who thinks this is disgusting and unsafe? Think of the diseases, HIV, hepatitis, God knows what else.
What do you think about this issue?
EDITED TO ADD:
OOOPS! This probably should have gone under the debate forum. Move if you wish.

Re: More on the breast feeding topic
Well, Im sure that they test and screen potential milk donors...so I doubt that the safety is a big issue...
But otherwise, I would feel awfully weird...I'm not even sure how to word it, but it just seems strange.

Re: More on the breast feeding topic
Being a guy, I saw "breast" and had to check out this topic. In all honesty, I guess if I were a parent, I wouldn't want my child's breast milk to come from some milk bank or nurse maid. Just seems odd and unnatural. Giv'm da boob.

That's really weird. I can't believe there's actually a market for this.
But then again, you have sperm banks...

Yep, well, as you pointed out csme, I would wanna be damn sure that it was guaranteed harmless. And I am not quite sure how that would be done.
How do they do it with blood ? Could the same concepts be applied ? Who here is of a scientific enough mind to answer ?

Scientific mind? Wrong board! LOL!
I guess the closest thing we have to a scientist around here is Rice.

I'm pretty sure that they could do some kind of type-matching and use screens against the most common disease pathogens, but otherwise I don't think there's much difference between screening blood and screening breast milk. I guess they could homogenize and pasteurize it or something like they do with regular cow milk

Re: More on the breast feeding topic
Can anyone go buy some milk from the Breast Bank? Because then I could make a milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard. Damn right it's better than YOURS. I could teach you but I'd have to charge.

Re: More on the breast feeding topic
Bizarre. People will be willing to donate anything these days . . .
I thought one of the big things about breast-feeding was the bond it creates between mum and child.
