A little TOO safe?

Five men detained and questioned for studying flight materials on plane

I put this here to see what you guys think...were the passengers and flight crew out of line, or did they act reasonably given the times?

Re: A little TOO safe?

I think they were out of line. I know in this day and age, air safety is numero uno, but now they're even saying what you can or can not read on the plane? Or was it simply because of their race/ethnicity?

What if I'm reading a book about a plane hijacking while I'm on a plane? Does that mean I'm actually studying? I know this isn't a great example, but come on, were they acting suspiciously any other way? Or were they just going over flight manuals (for helicopters) and talking about it amongst themselves?

This bothers me a lot. I don't like the thought that now we're going to be told what we can or can't even READ on a plane.

Re: A little TOO safe?

I think post-9/11 you can't be too cautious when it comes to stuff like that. So they got detained for a bit. Says they were released.

You bring up valid points, TV9. I'm still slightly miffed that I can't pack a lighter when I fly somewhere. I have no intentions of burning a plane down much less igniting it on the flight. But I understand the safety precautions behind it. Maybe they weren't planning to hijack the plane, but I'd hate to leave room for doubt if I were on that flight.
