Despite family pleas, man sentenced to 20 years for father's slaying

Very tragic story. Considering how vicious the murder sounded, the sentencing seems fair. They could have given him life or the death penalty, but the 20 years may be the best way to go.

Sad. If the allegations of abuse are true, I think they should have given him a lesser sentence. To be honest, I'm surprised the son hadn't snapped years ago and killed the bastard earlier on, although I don't think I can condone the way he did it. I would have just shot the son of a bitch.

The thing that surprises me is that nobody reported the abuse before. If it were that bad, you would think that someone would have stopped it. Then again, the guy was a doctor, so that status probably had a lot to do with it being kept under wraps.

I totally agree, not only did he bludgeon his dad, he slit his throat as well and I'm sure that went against his defence. He probably would have got a lesser sentence if he only whacked him over the head with a baseball bat - the judge mentioned the word 'premeditation' and that counts a lot.
