Some thoughts/prayers my way please...

My mom called this afternoon. Yesterday her doctor told her she was in the beginning stages of Alzheimers Disease. She is only 59. She's been on medicine for this thing for about a year already, but it wasn't officially diagnosed (I guess) until yesterday. She lives about 3 or 4 hours drive away, so I'm trying to decide if I want to uproot my life here and move back there to spend time with her while she's still...coherant and to try to be of some help/support when she isn't. But the selfish part of me says that I have my life here and am afraid of being stuck back in Bellaire which has been a dying town since the 80s. My hubby has been totally supportive and said whatever I need to do, he'll support.

I guess I just don't know what to do. Sorry for babbling.

I'm sorry about your mom I'm glad your hubby is so supportive, I was wondering if the care for your mom is better where she's at, or if she'd be more comfortable living in your town instead?

I kinda told her that today when I talked to her. Especially since there is a nursing home/care center that specializes in Alzheimers care about a mile down the road from me. But she said dad would never let her be out here that far from him.

Sooo...

but it's still early in the game, who knows how this will all play out. I guess life is kinda like that (and like a box of chocolates or so I've heard.) Apparently I've just bitten into a bitter piece of chocolate that sucks or something.

But anyway, I talked to her today for a good 20 minutes, (which is the most I've probably talked to her in awhile.) I think she's doing alright with it.
I tried to keep the conversation light, and not all doom and gloom. Her doctor didn't tell her much about it. I only know what I've read online.
She was on this Aricept medicine for about a year now, well she was SUPPOSED to be, but she stopped getting it refilled awhile ago because it cost her $20 a month (which back then I told her I'd pay for it if she would just take it.) Stubborn.

Aww, Patty, I'm sorry to hear that.

Have you checked out the Alzheimer's Association? It looks like their website is pretty informative.

You need to find out from her doctor what is going on, methinks. That way you can figure out what you want to do and what you need to plan for in the future.
