I need to scare the pants off my 10 year old
So, discussing Halloween with the oldest today....she declared to me..."Mom, movies made when YOU were a kid don't scare us now!"
When I asked who "us" was, she told me "kids these days..."
Her response was that "If I can make it though that last part in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I can watch those old movies."
After that comment, and after I finished howling with laughter, I decided to make her put her foot where her mouth is.
So, I want you guys to recommend me some movies that will scare the piss out of her...but were made in MY TIME...(according to her) because I have told her that she is so full of shit and movies that I watched when I was a kid can STILL scare the shit out of kids her age today.
Bear in mind, I'm 29, she's 10.
I already have Halloween and Evil Dead ready to go....

Carrie sounds like a winner. Maybe the Shining.

Re: I need to scare the pants off my 10 year old
Are you kidding? Simple.
1. "The Thing" - John Carpenter's masterpiece. Even if it doesn't scare her totally, I'll bet she nearly pisses her pants at the defibrillator scene.
2. "The Exorcist - The Version You've Never Seen" - I'll back Dag on this one but get this version specifically. The spider walk is just over the top.
3. "Alien" - Oh yeah, baby. The 1979 original. Superb horror.
4. "Se7en" - It was ten years ago so it wasn't really HER time. This is one of the most brilliant psychological horror films ever made. Period.
5. Any homemade porn of you and your husband - GUARANTEED to scar any kid for life. Simply horrifying. So scary even I wouldn't watch it.
So there you go. I hope 80% of those help.

Re: I need to scare the pants off my 10 year old
My 9 year old daughter watched Halloween this summer. It was on one Saturday afternoon.
It scared her and it was edited for TV.

Deliverance
She will never ask you to go canoeing, which can only be a blessing anyway

Actually, for this not being a horror picture, it is indeed a fine suggestion.

Re: I need to scare the pants off my 10 year old
K, I'll go with "The Thing" I own that...and dont have to look for it.
And I shall find "Alien" and if she is still alive....then she gets "The Exorcist"
Other possibilities the grownups in the house discussed included
"Childs Play"
"Nightmare on Elm Street"
"Psycho"
"Hellraiser"
Is it wrong that I'm going to enjoy this?

YOU'RE the idiot that took her to see Avril Lasagna LIVE and fed her sick obsession. You only have yourself to blame.
AND left, like, fifty bucks under her pillow for a tooth. And she's TEN! You got played.

1. I took her because of her good grades. It was free. I didnt buy her the DVD or the CDs.
2. I didnt have anything to do with the money. Someone else gave me that 5 dollar bill for her tooth. ...(50? Shit...I would have been breaking that sucker...and leaving her 3.)

Scared the shit outta my kids, and they were older than 10 when they saw it
Even now, my Daughter remembers. We saw an episode of MASH the other night, where Ned Beatty has a guest role as the Head Chaplain, and Roslyn said "That's the guy who they made to squeal like a pig...."
