"If you say you're going to do something and you start to do it, and people enjoy it or respect it or are entertained by it, people will step up and help you."
Out of curiosity, I went on the iTunes store today, and this is what I saw:
Top selling songs:
1. Man in the Mirror
3. The Way You Make Me Feel
4. Thriller
5. Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough
6. Smooth Criminal
7. Black or White
9. P.Y.T.
Pretty good, huh? Now check out the top albums:
1. The Essential Michael Jackson
2. Thriller
3. Number Ones (Michael Jackson)
4. Off the Wall
5. Bad
6. Thriller 25th Anniversary
7. Dangerous
8. Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection
9. Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits
Number 10 is the Black Eyed Peas' new album.

I'm not really surprised by the posthumous sales. I picked up a copy of Thriller 25th Anniversary for Sara today. I have the album on vinyl, but I may go back and get the other remastered copy of Thriller with the demo version of "Billie Jean" and other tracks. Apparently I was lucky to get either; Best Butt was saying they keep selling out of his albums.
Thriller and Def Leppard's Pyromania were the first two albums I ever owned - received both on cassette for Christmas in 1983.
With the exception of Steve Clark, I have never been depressed or bothered by the passing of a celebrity until now. I am usually indifferent to it, and may even make a joke about it. But not now. This is actually disturbing to me.
I never cared what MJ had done to himself through surgery or off-stage antics, it was his music I loved, and he was brilliant at it. It stands up over the years, and no matter how many people called him wacko or a freak, his music stood above all of it. It's telling that in all the years since his decline, no one has ever come around who could rightly be called the King of Pop but him. No other artist has been able to fill that role. It's possible that no other artist ever will. He was that rare combination of personality, passion, determination, dedication and energy.
Farewell Michael. You'll be missed.

I'm thinking they're going to protest/exhibit all kinds of "wills" that turn up eh?
