Re: MTV: A few good shows before they stopped playing videos altogether
For some reason, I decided to look in this old thread today and I wondered...did "Remote Control" survive into the 90's on MTV? Even in reruns?
And I loved Sifl & Olly! Everyone else I knew hated it. I don't recall it lasting very long. And I was completely addicted to Beavis & Butt-Head. I still watch it when MTV2 bothers to run it.
I also rather enjoyed Alex Winter's sketch show "The Idiot Box". I don't believe it lived very long either. But if you ever see a film he did called "Freaked", you can see the kind of humour the show was based around. In fact, you should see "Freaked" anyhow. Need motivation? It has Mr. T as the Bearded Lady! Now go find it.

I don't know if it did or not, but I loved Remote Control. Best game show I ever watched. And it was relevant to music! How many shows on EmptyV today can lay claim to THAT?

Um...uh...-3?
Edited to add: Actually, I have no idea. I haven't really watched MTV much since they took Beavis & Butt-Head off.

I didn't care much for Ken Ober-wan Kenober but I did like Adam Sandler on Remote Control.
I never watched Club MTV or The Grind much at all. 120 Minutes was cool. And I got sucked into quite a few seasons of The (un)Real World (SF, London, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, Vegas...).

You. You right there. Yes, you. YOU are the reason MTV sucks. Well, one of a long list anyway. But if people hadn't given these shows ratings, would MTV have continued down its current path? God, I miss music videos...

Yes, I made MTV suck. I'm stealing the donut.
It seemed like they stopped playing videos long before that Real World crap.

Dude, you should get DirecTV and hook yourself up with some VH1 Classic. It's videolicious all the time.
And you beat me to the punch yelling at him about "The Real World". No one acts real when they know a camera's on them. No one. Manufactured drama for manufactured people.
