Heath Ledger totally won me over. I was blown away by his portrayal of The Joker. NOW I'm truly saddened by his departure and wonder if anyone can fill the clown shoes he's left behind.
It's official for me now, Christian Bale is the best Batman ever, and he should always play this part whenever it is offered for the rest of his natural life.
Aaron Eckhardt's portrayal of Dent was excellent as well.
This movie gets two thumbs and a pup tent WAAAAAAAY up. I liked it even better than "Batman Begins."
NERDGASM!!!
So that's what you were doing last night. Local festival, my butt.
I will have to agree with you about Christian Bale. He will always be Batman to me. I don't know, he's just very convincing in the role.
Christian Bale > Michael Keaton + Adam West combined. Val Kilmer and George Clooney don't matter.
Although the animated series Batman voice guy did a pretty darn good job.

The wife and I saw it after all on Sunday afternoon. I don't think there's really anything I can add to what people have already said about it because I found it as brilliant an experience as everyone else (although I didn't feel it was too long at all...I was stunned it went as quickly as it did). However, after having the same conversation with a certain individual over and over these past few weeks about Heath Ledger, I would like to do this.

I TOLD YOU SO, YOU DAFFY BASTARD.
Didn't I? DIDN'T I? I told you "I think he's going to burn down anything that's ever come before in the Batman mythos." But you just wouldn't believe me. You may now kiss my round white butt.
I'd honestly go see this again, and that's saying a lot, considering how damned expensive it is to go to the movies.
So would I. In a heartbeat.
What also amazed me was how the film affected the audience around me. I can't recall having ever sat in a big blockbuster like this is and had the audience so QUIET. Everyone was completely enthralled throughout the entire film. Sure, they laughed in some places due to Ledger's antics but it was always a nervous kind of laughter due to him being so unsettling as the Joker.
For a comic book movie, this never felt like a comic book movie. This felt like a dark drama that could easily stand as one of the best movies I've ever seen, period.
Oh, and major ups to the writers and director for their outstanding attention to continuity from the first movie. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't let the next movie turn into the Day-Glo vomit the last series became.

That's how it was at our theater, with the same nervous laughter. Even Jason was quiet during most of it (a few bits in between he got up to move around, but I think his butt was falling asleep). The only time anyone seriously laughed with humor was during the hospital scene with Heath's cross dressing.
You know, the kid is watching Spiderman 2 right now, and you can see how vastly different these movies are re: the comic book feel. Spiderman 2 seems so campy now.
I do hope that Batman 3 doesn't suck. But these guys have given me a lot of confidence that Batman 3 will totally rock.

I was reading around Dlisted (yeah, a great source of info) and some people from the UK are saying that assault over there is a VERBAL threat and that every suspect is arrested before questioning. So there you go.

Apparently this movie made about $3M more than was estimated. Holy buckets of money, Batman!
