The Dark Knight

Who's going to see it? What do you think of all the reviews it has been getting so far? I'm reluctant to mention Heath Ledger (for obvious reasons), but do you think his take on the Joker will outshine the rest of the movie?

If you've seen my MySpace page lately, you know I've been geeking out about "The Dark Knight". I've been getting into the whole Batman graphic novel thing, and having read "The Killing Joke", I'm ready to see how the Joker plays out on the big screen.

And yes, I am ignoring the earlier Batman movies.

Well yeah, but I think Heath Ledger might have an edge on Jack Nicholson's "Joker" portrayal.

Re: The Dark Knight

I won't be seeing it opening weekend for several reasons:

1. The huge amount of mental jobs that'll go clog the cinema dressed up like Batmen and Jokers opening weekend. I dealt with in 1989. Once was enough.

2. No babysitter as usual and I'm not taking my kid to this. You can label me overcautious if you want but I still ain't takin' him.

3. That happens to be the weekend right before my 7th wedding anniversary and I don't think the wife would consider a Batman movie celebrating. No, I KNOW she wouldn't.

4. My stuck-up sister-in-law had TWINS right around our anniversary so every year she holds a goddamned EPIC GALA for these kids (which kills any plans we might EVER be able to make EVERY FUCKING YEAR). Just what they need as they're already stuck up and nasty and think they're better than everyone else JUST LIKE THEIR MOM. (For those not in the know, this is the same broad that intimated to my wife that I wasn't doing a good job raising my son and treated him poorly. You know, the son that just won three academic awards in school and isn't conceited or nasty at all. And she never apologized.) Anyhow, my son is expected there so that's that. And NO, I'm not going. That would intimate that I support such things.

However, I will very likely go sometime on a weeknight right after opening weekend. After a mediocre if not just BAD Indiana Jones experience in May, I'm really gunning for a great Batman moment in July.

That's hardly fair, though. Look how much the Batman mythos has changed in twenty years. That was like saying Nicholson might have the edge on poor giggling Cesar Romero back in 1989.

Re: The Dark Knight

I think Jack did a decent job but he had a different mood of script to work with, because while Burton Batman was dark, it was still really campy...like a transition between 60s Adam West Batman and current Batman.

But this Two-Face will probably be a lot better than Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face in that travesty of a movie...not that Tommy is a bad actor, he just got a shitty script

1. I don't blame you. We were toying with going to the IMAX theater to see it, but it's too expensive and I don't want to deal with the uber nerds. I am hoping that my instinct is correct though and they'll all be at the IMAX instead of the regular theater. Besides, if we go to a Saturday matinee, it should be empty because all the geeks will be at home burnt out from either bitching about or praising the movie online.

2. We're taking Jason. HE wants to see it. Not that I'd recommend it for everyone, but this is the same kid who watches Snakes On A Plane over and over again, so it's no surprise that he wants to go.

3. Yeah, I'm thinking she wouldn't consider that great romantic fare.

4. From the things you have told me and the things I've heard while on the phone with you, your son is more well adjusted than about 98% of the population. I'll refrain from insulting your sister in law though.

I think that's what I was getting at. I didn't dislike Jack Nicholson's character, but I think I'm more into the darker and less campy Batman.

Sadly, that sounds like something Bay would do.

Re: The Dark Knight

That was really painful to read. I still hate Pearl Harbor.

Re: The Dark Knight

I'm going to try to see it opening night...or weekend. It sucks because it runs in the same weekend of me moving out.

And please ignore the Batman Begins crap.....I think Katie Holmes did a terrible job. Although Cillian Murphy eye candy made up for her bad performance. :P

Re: The Dark Knight

Batman Begins was good though, despite Katie Holmes.

Maggie Gyllenhaal >>>>>>> Katie Holmes.

Re: The Dark Knight

Go see this movie. NOW.

Words cannot even begin to describe how fucking awesome this movie is. I know Aaron Eckhardt was getting a lot of flak for not playing a strong enough Harvey Dent, but I didn't see it. Heath Ledger is just fucking batshit INSANE in his portrayal of the Joker.

There is a lot of it that I can't describe, but it does make you think. It definitely goes beyond the usual "comic book bad guy goes boom good guy saves the day" stuff.

Re: The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger totally won me over. I was blown away by his portrayal of The Joker. NOW I'm truly saddened by his departure and wonder if anyone can fill the clown shoes he's left behind.

It's official for me now, Christian Bale is the best Batman ever, and he should always play this part whenever it is offered for the rest of his natural life.

Aaron Eckhardt's portrayal of Dent was excellent as well.

This movie gets two thumbs and a pup tent WAAAAAAAY up. I liked it even better than "Batman Begins."

NERDGASM!!!
