We rent from the library, so the DVD's are usually fucked up. I swear, people must play Frisbee with these things. We ALWAYS have to clean them or else they lock up on us. It's insane.
Sad to say we re-rented this and watched it tonight, and I was disappointed. I had the impressi0on from previews that this would be a comedy and it wasn't. In fact, I thought it really kind of plodded along, and I was disappointed with the ending.

I think that's why I liked it. I get so tired of the same shit that Will Ferrell does that it's refreshing to see him doing something semi-serious. His silly schtick only goes so far before I just want to strangle him. Same goes for Jim Carrey. I LOVED "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

Re: Weekend Movie Review. What Did Ya See? How Was It?
It was nice to watch him in a serious role, but I don't think this was the one for him. I found myself not really liking the character very much as he just didn't have anything interesting to draw me in to liking him. The character was a very boring person through most of the movie. He did improve about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through, and became likable, but at that point I was watching just to finish it rather than watching because I was really enjoying it.

I'll take that under advisement. Fundage is limited so this may also have to wait until a free rental day
Gotta see Shrek 3 with the boy later on too.

In other words, "Thom liked it but he liked Superman Returns, so that means this probably sucks," right?
It's a typical Marvel movie. High on activity, low on character development. For action, it's pretty damned good. For comic purists, you'll scream. For deep characters, you'll be bored.

^ Nah, I just don't have enough money So I figure I'd just add a bunch of stuff to my Netflix queue and get to it when I can.

Saw another foreign film last night, from Ireland this time. Once is a movie that is mostly a musical but not like Broadway style, it's mostly...acoustic guitar and apparently all the music is from a band popular in Ireland called The Frames.
I liked it.

Review:
"Awesome.
No, not just awesome. FUCKING Awesome."
And you can quote me on that.
I haven't seen so many explosions, gunfights and car crashes in a single movie in a very long time. It ropes you in. With a lasso around the neck.
It's formulaic Die-Hard. He gets the shit beat out of him, but they just can't kill him and he just keeps coming. The action is relentless. You think you're entering a lull and shit takes off again.
The plot was good, the bad guy was nicely done, and Willis was the John McClane we remember of old. Only he can piss someone off that bad, and his radio banter with the bad guys was classic.
In all honesty you do NOT notice the movie is PG-13. Seriously, Cryspy and I discussed it afterwards and neither one of us noticed that F-bombs weren't present. One death would have been grislier with an R rating, but hell, it didn't NEED to be.
The classic line (Yippy-Ki-Ay Motherfucker)? Done in a great way that didn't detract from it being PG-13 friendly.
In short, one of the best action movies I have seen in a LOOOOONG time. So good we wanted to watch it again immediately, and might have if we hadn't been coming home for PAGZ.
See it.

I guess I'm gonna go see Die Hard 4 then
Probably have to wait a couple weeks for my mom to get into town so she can watch the baby and yell at me for spending money I don't have.

Re: Weekend Movie Review. What Did Ya See? How Was It?
I saw Transformers last night. If you're into non-stop action and special EFX then I say go see this. If you're into movies with consistent plot lines...yeah, notsomuch. Overall it was good and I'd go see it again.
Re: Weekend Movie Review. What Did Ya See? How Was It?
I can't remember the last time I've watched three movies in a week.
In addition to Transformers, Wednesday I watched Shaolin Soccer. Reminded me of Kung-Fu Hustle, which I also found entertaining. And earlier this evening I watched Tenacious D: Pick Of Destiny at my brother's and had tears running down my face during the "Break-In City (Storm The Gate)" sequence.

That's what the guy was talkin' a--shit!"
Re: Weekend Movie Review. What Did Ya See? How Was It?
Just got back from seeing "Shrek the Third". It was Jason's first time at a movie theater and he was like, "ooooh". Then he got bored and started playing with the seats and stuff.
It was good. Not great, but a good and fitting ending (hopefully it's the ending) to the Shrek franchise. And the dream sequence that Shrek has about being a father had me laughing. And the fairy tale princesses.....that was a hoot, especially Snow White.
So yeah. Not something I'd recommend paying full price for (we did a $3 matinee), but good to see if you like Shrek.
