Star Trek returning?

Paramount plans 2008 revival

I am both excited and leery. Star Trek makes for some good television, but except for Wrath of Khan and maybe Star Trek VI, they make crappy movies. Star Trek IV was the most successful but only because they spoofed the heck out of themselves.

I hope this one doesn't suck.

Re: Star Trek returning?

Ah, rumors...

From IMDb.com:

Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams is hitting back at unauthorized reports he is directing the next Star Trek movie. The Alias creator is furious the news was released prematurely and is also upset that key details regarding the storyline were incorrectly reported. He explains to Empire online, "The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation. People learned that I was producing a Star Trek film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumors of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate." Last week, Hollywood trade paper Variety, reported Abrams was on board and that the film would center on the early days of Captain James T. Kirk and Spock and that Philip Seymour Hoffman was in talks to play the ship's doctor. Abrams won't reveal the true storyline, but hints that it won't feature characters Captain James T. Kirk or Mr. Spock at all, but doesn't rule out bringing some of the original characters back for the new film, adding, "Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that..you know, they could live again."

Re: Star Trek returning?

Here's some good news...

From IMDb.com...

Script Completed for 'Star Trek XI'
Director J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the script for Star Trek XI has been completed, that it will concern Capt. Kirk and Spock as very young men, that shooting will begin this year, and that the movie is targeted for release in 2008. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams said that the story will satisfy even non-Trekkers. "On the one hand, for people who love Star Trek, the fix that they will get will be really satisfying, '' he told the magazine. ''For people who've never seen it or know it vaguely, I think they will enjoy it equally, because the movie does not require you to know anything about Star Trek. I would actually prefer [that] people don't know the series, because I feel like they will come to it with an open mind."

I really hope it doesn't suck.

Kirk and Spock as younger men, pre- STO? It's gonna suck.

Thankfully, nothing can suck worse than Star Trek V.

I've got 5 words for you:

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture"

I'll take Star Trek V over that one any day of the week.

Re: Star Trek returning?

I'm kinda leery on the whole "Younger" Spock and Kirk thing...sounds like a rip-off of the Star Wars Prequels to me!

Re: Star Trek returning?

Yeah, the first one was pretty lame too...it looked like they were in onesie pajamas

My favorites were II, III, IV, VI and First Contact. Nemesis was like Wrath of Khan Lite...sigh.

Here's something for you guys...

Better watch it quick, Youtube is doing maintenance in about an hour.

http://omg.yahoo.com/pine-joins-%60t...kirk/news/3213

This pretty much lists the principal cast for the movie, which I think takes place when everyone is in Starfleet Academy or something. I'll probably watch it but I seriously hope it doesn't suck. I think the official Startrek.com site has more info.
