Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
The year's about over. What are your Top 5 Favourite Songs of 2005? I usually wait until the year's over, but I think the ones I consider tops will probably outshine anything I hear new in 4 weeks. You never know.
I'll post my list soon.

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
Alright, here's my list in no particular order:
1. ?Feel Good Inc.? - Gorillaz
Courtesy of NewRo I was able to get an advance copy of the album. This track is the catchiest tune of the year. The album is pretty solid. Hopefully I?ll be getting a remix of this tune soon.
2. ?Gold Digger? ? Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx
I still haven?t seen Ray yet but that boy can sing! I just dig this tune and just got turned on to it a few months ago. The tune makes me laugh and it?s swell and catchy enough.
3. ?When The Dawn Breaks? ? Narcotic Thrust
This is THE dance anthem of 2005. It just cruises along and builds up at the bridge. I dig it.
4. ?Do You Want To? ? Franz Ferdinand
I saw them play live on SNL a few months back. The new album is wonderful, and this track is a great single.
5. ?Twisted Transistor? (Eric Kupper Elektro-Tek Klub Mix) ? KoRn
Hey, I?m surprised too! I tune in to the local dance station here during my commutes, and I heard this driving dance track, and so I peruse the station?s site to check out songs that are getting a lot of spins (to download and keep up with the dance music scene) and originally downloaded the single version of this track and was still in shock. Finally got the Eric Kupper mix which kicks ass over the other remixes out there (Josh Harris, Dummies). Plus the F-bomb is sung in the chorus...what more can you ask for?
Other 2005 tracks that deserve recognition:
?Jerk It Out? ? Caesars
?Hung Up? ? Madonna
?Avalon? ? Juliet
?Love On My Mind? ? Freemasons
?Pon De Replay? ? Rhiannon
?And She Said? ? Lucas Prata
?The Other Side? ? Paul Van Dyk feat. Wayne Jackson
?Precious? ? Depeche Mode
?Totally Hooked? ? Peter Presta feat. Bonze
?Don?t Cha? (Ralphi Rosario Hot Vox 12? Mix) ? Pussycat Dolls

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
I don't listen to much modern music. My favorite radio station plays some, but it is mostly 80's rock. One song they do play, though, is Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl. For some reason I really like that song.

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
My absolute favorites of 2005? The ones that make me turn up the stereo and just ROCK?
American Idiot- Green Day (The WHOLE album, while technically 2004, Wake Me Up When September Ends really made me dig this album out and up it in my list of favorites.)
"Somebody Told Me" The Killers
"Sugar We're Going Down" Fall Out Boy
"Trapped in the Closet Chapters 1-6"- R Kelly
Kudos out to these tunes as well..
Good Times- Tommy Lee
My Hump- The BlackEyed Peas
Franz Ferdinand (Thanks NewRo, liked it so much I bought the first CD)
NickleBack, Lifehouse, Weezer, and Switchfoot also put out some good CDs this year.

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
I finally put a list together. I've avoided looking at this thread until I finished so your choices wouldn't sway mine. Here, in no particular order, are my top five:
1. "Do You Want To" - Franz Ferdinand
While the whole album shines, this initial offering has just as much hook as "Take Me Out" if not MORE. Sophomore slump, my ass.
2. "Feel Good Inc." - Gorillaz
Looks like I'm not alone. Why couldn't the last Blur album have been as good as this song? I also have to give this song credit for bringing De La Soul back to the musical foreground. They sound as sharp as they ever did.
3. "Precious" - Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode seem pretty good at correcting errors from where I stand. When they made the nightmare that was "Songs Of Faith And Devotion" in 1993, they came back and gave me the warm and deep "Ultra" in 1997. And after making one hell of a BORING album in 2001 with "Exciter", they gave me this dandy single this year. Thank you, gentlemen. Except Fletch. He's a weenie.
4. "Girl" - Beck
It's a simple fact - Beck can do no wrong. And this video? Daaaaaaamn.
5. "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" - Kanye West
Yeah, "Gold Digger" has all the hook but the intensity of this track puts it on my list. Kanye's delivery is smooth as original Jif on this record. Besides that, it has a magnificent James Bond/Shirley Bassey sample. Sold!
And here are a few honourable mentions that I felt deserved to be listed:
- "Speed Of Sound" - Coldplay
- "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" - LCD Soundsystem
- "Lose Control" - Missy Elliott
- "Lyla" - Oasis
- "An Honest Mistake" - The Bravery

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
I debated putting Precious in my list...I love it...but I just havent gotten as hooked on it as I have with the others on my list.
And big rep to you for The Bravery and Coldplay. Good choices.

Traci, i'm glad you convinced me to buy the Tommy Lee album. I'm really surprised at how good it is.

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
I'll add another track that deserves honourable mention that just started getting airplay here in the past couple weeks: "Love Generation" by Bob Sinclair. Catchy whistle riffs that emulate Frankie Knuckles' "The Whistle Song", it's a nice laid-back reggae house anthem that leaves you feeling good.

Re: Your Top 5 Songs of 2005
OK, even though I was in Podunkville, Florida for most of the year ... I've managed to come up with five.
In no particular order -
Feel Good, Inc. - Gorillaz
Dare - Gorillaz (I love this CD to DEATH ... and was also most fortunate to receive an advance copy from Rob )
My Doorbell - The White Stripes
Precious - Depeche Mode (duh!)
Hung Up - Madonna (well, what I've heard of it anyway)

He IS a weenie! I'd gladly sacrifice Fletch to The Holy Spirit Of Wink Martindale on a dirty altar if it meant getting Alan Wilder back instead. Or even if it didn't. Fletch is stink. So there.
