What's yours? There are a lot of decent 80's comps out there, many in series (Living In Oblvion, New Wave: Just Can't Get Enough, etc.). What's your favorite?
My personal favorite was one that actually came out in the 80's called Number 1 On The Streets. Nearly all the songs on the 90-minute cassette/double album were the 12" extended versions, and included tunes such as:
"Talking In Your Sleep" - Romantics
"Electric Avenue" - Eddy Grant
"Let Me Go" - Heaven 17
"The Politics Of Dancing" - Re-Flex
"Lies" - Thompson Twins
"Let The Music Play" - Shannon
I don't even have to think. There are three sets out there that I think are just phenomenal.
1. Living In Oblivion Vol. 1-5
I think these are still in print. EMI did these back in the 90's. I take these with me every single time I go out for a DJ gig.
2. Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits Of The 80's Vol. 1-15
A sterling set from Rhino. The CDs have more cuts than the cassettes and all have a relatively modest price.
3. Left Of The Dial: Dispatches From The 80's underground
This is a four-disc box released by the good people at Rhino. It's similar to the new wave series above but much darker and (for lack of a better word) Gothic.
If one was to look for those sets you mentioned...where would it be found? Ive seen that CGR uses those compilations for alot of the songs on the playlist...and just for my own perusal, I'd like to see the track listings for these sets.

Just about anywhere, really. I believe all three are still in print. Rhino's website probably has two of them. I imagine just about any major music site or store would carry them
Also, if they're linked to Amazon from the station website, you could click on the BUY link on the playlist and be taken to the Amazon page for the album, which should also have a tracklist.

I would like to add that I'm very please with SPG's Classic Alternatives compilations. 12" extended rare (supposedly) mixes on CD. That and they're very cheap; I bought the first 3 volumes in a set for $15; and recently acquired Volume 4 (which is a 3-disc set) for $15. Tracks from Yello, Talk Talk, Ministry, Propaganda, Hunters And Collectors, etc. Good stuff.
A big favourite of mine is 'Smash Hits 1988' . . .
'I should be so lucky' - Kylie Minogue
'Love changes everything' - Climie Fisher
'Turn back the clock' - Johnny Hates Jazz
'Angel eyes' - Wet Wet Wet
'Say it again' - Jermaine Stewart
'Hot in the city' - Billy Idol
'Doctorin' the house' - Coldcut feat. Yazz and the Plastic Population
'Beat Dis' - Bomb the Bass
'House arrest' - Krush
'Mary's prayer' - Danny Wilson
'The King of Rock and Roll' - Prefab Sprout

That's a sweet comp, actually. Ah, the Stock-Aitken-Waterman days of pop were groovy indeed. That Danny Wilson song alone is worth it. I still think it's one of the most underappreciated singles of that decade.

I thought I was the only person on the planet that liked the S-A-W part of the 80s, lol. I agree with 'Mary's Prayer' totally. In a decade full of drum machines and synthesisers it was quite a welcome contrast - I enjoyed the video too.
Oh . . . 'Second summer of love' by Danny Wilson is great too.

I actually had the opportunity to see Danny Wilson live back in 1987 when they opened for Simply Red. It's still the only time I've ever seen an opening band called out for an encore. That's how good they were live. Not too shabby for a band that was largely forgotten until their biggest hit got recycled in "There's Something About Mary".
It also suddenly occurred to me that I don't have their debut album on CD. I need to remedy that in the near future.

Wow! That's excellent. I didn't even know they had a CD. I may have to check that out.

They gots TWO! The first one is "Meet Danny Wilson" and is the one that features "Mary's Prayer". Their second is called "Bebopmoptop". You should be able to find it in cutout bins and $1 used CD sections near you.

Another reason for me to go to the market and Cash Converters (second hand store in UK). I'm looking out for those.
