Wii Fit. We Fat.

When my son finished his first year of kindergarten a few weeks ago, we presented him with a Wii for all his accomplishments. (He received several academic awards as well as a perfect attendance award. You'd have had to PAY me to achieve perfect attendance.) My dear wife decided that she wanted to get Wii Fit in an attempt to start ANY type of fitness program. Not being the lightest guy on my feet, I was game to give it a try.

Now I had read some articles and some reviews about Wii Fit. Some were good and some were merely average. I myself was highly skeptical. I mean, come on. It's a video game system. I was firmly convinced this was more of an item created to give that fat comic book guy in the basement some sense of fitness. "Oh, yes, I exercised for seven minutes with Wii Fit. Oh, good gravy, I need a lawnchair and a Yoo-Hoo. Oooh, and some gravy!"

I was WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I don't know if it's as good as going to the gym and getting a real trainer but I gotta say...this thing is kicking my fat ass so far. It's far more comprehensive than I would have thought. Yoga, strength training, aerobics...it's there and it's WAY more there than I could have imagined. I probably could have lived without the program calling me "obese". I probably could have lived without my avatar suddenly gaining weight and making a "bloop" noise as well. But I've used it every day since we got it. I'm REALLY hoping to see a change over time.

So there you go. Wii Fit for we fat. If you weigh under 330 pounds (they raised the weight limit by 30 pounds for us lard-tubs in the USA) and want to exercise and have fun without all those skinny dickweeds at the gym laughing at you, give it a shot.

Re: Wii Fit. We Fat.

I would if I could get my hands on it. Guess I'll have to make do with the gym and Rithard Thimmons tapes for now.

I tried getting one in California because the sales tax is WAY cheaper than here. The guy that I talked to at Best Butt said they sold out of the Wii system and Wii Fit in fifteen minutes.

Your son is awesome. I send him super congratulations for being better than all those other kids.

The only reason we (Wii?) managed to get one is because I did some research and learned which Sunday circulars advertised them BEFORE they showed up on my doorstep. And that's why my wife was camped outside of a Target at 7am. And that store only received TEN Wii Fits.

And thank you for praising my son. I just hope it's not all downhill from here. I can already see all the knowledge leaking out his ears as the summer progresses.

Damn. You guys are hardcore.

You are also good luck. We stopped by Best Buy today on a lark and I noticed a bundle advertisement for the Wii. Figuring they didn't have them in stock, but curious anyways, I asked the guy. They did. Guess what we own now?

Sadly, they didn't have the Wii Fit, but I figured I spent enough on that bundle today that I can wait six or seven months for the Wii Fit. My credit card company is loving me.

That's pretty much how we got ours. I went to Toys R Us to get Rock Band and just meandered over to look at Wii games. Clerk asked if I needed help, said something about getting a Wii one day, guy tells me they have them right now. Total fluke. I was just glad we were able to afford it at that point and time...especially since it's lived up to the hype for me so far.

I'm loving it. Our bundle had a lot of extras for a pretty fair price. I got Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy as the games in the bundle (your choice of two $50 games), and it came with the crossbow and Link's Crossbow Training, which look pretty neat. Improve my aim or something.

Re: Wii Fit. We Fat.

I'm considering getting a Wii sometime in the near future because of what I've heard about Wii Fit, plus I think the games alone would get the other half involved as well. Also, it's a fun system to have at parties.

Let me know how the Fit thing goes, NewRo.

If it means anything, I lost about 1.5 pounds in the first week without really adjusting my diet at all. I figure ANY downward swing in my weight and BMI is a good thing...no matter how seemingly insignificant. Let's face it, no one's gonna walk up to me and say "Wow! You look great! Did you lose two pounds?"

And in celebrating you gain four pounds. ROUND AND ROUND SHE GOES! I'll celebrate when I can see MORE of my feet and LESS of my center.

If anyone had told me years ago I'd be doing YOGA in my basement at the age of 39, I'd have laughed my ass off. Now I'm actually doing it and trying to stretch, twist, and run my ass off.

Exactly.

I've been wanting to try Yoga, but I get intimidated by all these skinny broads that frequent the classes and do those impossible stretches and stuff.

I want to steal my brother's wii and wii fit. It's fun. It's just more expensive than the YMCA or something. It's fun, though.....but I would figure someone might get a migraine from looking at the tv screen all day.

I think it's geared more towards people who don't want to exercise in public. Hell, I won't even use our PRIVATE gym if someone else is in there. I also get really uncomfortable if I'm in there by myself on the treadmill and someone else walks in to exercise. I finish my workout as quick as I can and bail.

I dunno, it's not like I can disguise the fact that I'm a cow, so I'm not sure what my problem is with working out when other people are around.

Maybe it's that watching feeling? I wanna work out as soon as I move out since I'll have a free gym, but I'll wear super baggy clothes so I don't feel noticed. I dunno. Swimming in public is my freakout department. But Wii Fit sure does give you that sense of super privacy.

Because, from what little experience I've had, people who use gyms tend to be ASSHOLES. And that includes a lot of the staff. I joined Bally's with the wife once and we both got personal trainers. Hers was this wonderful patient woman who seemed genuinely concerned about my wife's health and fitness. But mine? Mine was your stereotypical white frat-boy prick who mocked me and asked me if I wanted to fight to show "what kind of pussy" I was. So, of course, they fired my WIFE'S TRAINER (she was moonlighting elsewhere because Bally's pays for SHIT) and ignored the complaint about mine. When you start adding in how utterly irresponsible and DANGEROUS their daycare area was, we quit and got our money back. As a postscript, the wickprick they gave me called our house TWO MONTHS after we quit asking where I was and telling me how I was going to be a fat fuck all my life if I didn't drag my flabby ass back in there. I won't go into details of the response he received. I'll just say he didn't call back again. Ever.

Fuck Bally's right in the ass. I hope that guy's dead along with the stupid bitch-hag that ran the kid's area. I really do. And that's not a wish I make lightly these days. But people that hopeless should be put to sleep.

On topic, I've lost five pounds in twelve days. Wii Fit says I'm doing well. Am I? I can't say I'm very knowledgeable about how long weight loss should take. If I was, well, I probably wouldn't need a Wii Fit in the first place.
