80's home gaming systems
Which one(s) did you own back in the day?
Back in 1981, my parents FINALLY bought us an Atari 2600 VCS. I thought it was the coolest, especially the games made by Activision. I still have the console; there's some wire that needs to be soldered or something, plus all the good cartridges are missing so I'm asking for that Atari Flashback thing so I can play on the big TV
For Christmas in 1988 I bought my family a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Good times.

Re: 80's home gaming systems
I didn't have any in the day ! Later, someone gave us an NES.
There was this game called Digger T Rock, and we could never get past one certain stage. It took hours to get there, and when you failed, then you had to start all over. Grrr.
We still have it, we tried to sell it at a garage sale but no-one would take it !

Re: 80's home gaming systems
I'm just hoping that Flashback console has the 9-pin connections for controllers, and if so, hopefully my Wico joysticks will work with it as the controllers they supply with it are craptacular.

Re: 80's home gaming systems
*sigh* I had an Atari 2600 AND 5200. My stinking ex-wife kept them. I miss my Ataris. I have an Atari emulator with tons of games but it's not the same.

Re: 80's home gaming systems
I had one of those old NES...
I kicked ASS on pinball.
My cousins were the only ones lucky enough to have an Atari when we were kids. And they lived in Georgia. So I rarely got to play it.
My dad got us a Commodore 64. Hows that for craptacular family gaming?

Actually, for its day, the C64 kicked ass. Sure, it's funny now but it looked pretty sweet back then.

Re: 80's home gaming systems
Ooo, NewRo showed me the Atari Flashback 2 today. Double the games of the original Flashback and it has the awesome wood grain paneling on the front like the original 2600. All for under $30! Sweet!

Re: 80's home gaming systems
And I showed you that arcade-size standup machine with 12 games in it for under $500. 80's nostalgia is kicking in big time, kids. Revel in it.

Re: 80's home gaming systems
A friend of mine gave me her Atari 2600, complete with quite a few games. That same year, my mom bought me the 5200 with Popeye for Christmas.
I eventually upgraded to the NES and so my best friend inherited the Ataris because her parents wouldn't buy her ANY game systems. I believe she told me that she still has them, too. I'd love to get them back but I think I'll settle for the "newer" model!

Ha ha! My family were definitely console unaware too. My mates had NES's and Sega Megadrives and I was still playing on my dad's Amstrad CPC464, lol.
For a change, I went to see my uncle regularly who had a Spectrum+2.
Oh the pretty colours . . .
