Atari 2600

Released in 1977, the Atari 2600 (aka Atari Video Computer System) quickly became a popular home video game console in the early 80's. Adventure contained one of the first "Easter Eggs" in a game, where a programmer would leave a little treat to be found. Many arcade games were emulated for the system, and a highly anticipated version of Pac-Man was a major disappointment. Aggressive marketing of this game and a game based on the movie E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial contributed to what is known as the video game crash of 1983.

Still, the games were fun. Activision made quite a few decent games.

So, did you own one? What games did you have?

I still have the one my parents purchased in 1981; a six-switch with wood-grain panel. It still works. We used to have a lot more games than what's with it now. Here's a list of games I remember having:

Combat
Space Invaders
Haunted House
Ms. Pac-Man
Pole Position
Crystal Castles
Kangaroo
Missile Command
Yar's Revenge
Star Raiders
Defender
Berzerk
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Asteroids
E.T.
Vanguard
Riddle Of The Sphinx
Atlantis
Chopper Command
Crackpots
Breakout
Circus Atari
Surround
Centipede
Star Wars: The Arcade Game
Donkey Kong Junior
Pressure Cooker
Cosmic Ark

Re: Atari 2600

I had the advanced Atari 7800 Pro System. I only had like 8 or 9 games for it, but over the years, I have kept the original system, and slowly built up my collection. I now have over 130 games

Originally though, I had ...

7800 games:
Pole Position II
Ms. Pac-Man
Food Fight

2600 games:
Asteroids
Berzerk
Pac-Man
Star Raiders
Defender
Yars Revenge
ET: The Extra-Terrestrial

Re: Atari 2600

I had wanted the 7800, as you could play 2600 games on it. I had some friends that had the 5200, and although the graphics were superior to that of the 2600, the joysticks were horrible. Thank goodness for third party manufacturers like Wico that made a decent joystick for the system.
