"Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Clap, or Crap ?

Maybe it's just cos I'm an oldie, but I listen to this song and shake my head when people describe it as one of the best songs of the 1990s etc etc.

Personally, I think "Come As You Are" is a much better song by them. Then again, I think it's about the only good song by them heh heh...

So, the poll question regards your thoughts on "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Clap, or Crap ?

If this is one of the best songs of the 90s, then it really goes without saying why almost no 90s music gets aired on RR...

I wouldn't go so far as to call it the BEST of the 90s. Other seattle bands have done it better then nirvana. Like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

It's not THE best song of the 90s, but it was influencial and I thought it was a good song, even if I can't understand what the heck Kurt is singing.

I like the song, but I don't think it was the BEST song of the 90's. Not even my favorite Nirvana song.

I liked "Smells like teen spirit", but not my fav by Nirvana. Lithuim is my fav.

I can't vote because I don't agree with any of the choices. I love this song even though it may contain the stoopidest lyrics ever...but I do not believe for one second that Kurt Cobain was a genius...

I second that. I don't think he was a genius and I used to hate it when people would say he was the voice his generation.

Can't really vote either, the song was ok, it grew on me after the 10 thousandth time they played it on the radio (but I still like the Weird Al version better "Smells like Nirvana"

Paul Anka sings Smells like Teen Spirit...well...as a lounge act. Perhaps that's why Kurt killed himself, he didn't want to end up singing his song in a Vegas lounge in 30 years time.

I like it. Although I think "genius" is a bit of a stretch for Cobain, I maintain Nirvana were a very accomplished bunch of musicians. I think the work Dave Grohl's done with Foo Fighters (as well as drumming on what I consider to be the best Queens Of The Stone Age album to date) speaks for itself.

Having said that, I'll go along with others in saying this isn't my favourite Nirvana track. That would probably be either "Heart Shaped Box" or "Drain You".

My favorite Nirvana song is actually Heart Shaped Box, and Kurt wasn't a genius. I did like his lyrics though.
