Intersections - How do you prefer to get from one side to the other?
Yarrgghh ! If there's one freakin' thing the drives me nuts, it's when those responsible for road planning decide, in their wisdom , that a simple intersection should be replaced by traffic lights, or a roundabout (I believe these are referred to as 'traffic circles' in North America?).
Where I live, they have gone nuts at putting in roundabouts. They put them where they are not needed.
So, discarding highways and major roads and the like, what is your preferred method of getting from where you are, onto another road ?
Be aware, none of these options may appeal. If so, please pick the lesser of all the evils

Re: Intersection poll
I went for a roundabout, but it depends on where the idiots put them...

Re: Intersection poll
We have a few roundabouts here. They call them roundabouts or traffic circles interchange-ably. Unfortunately, they seem fairly new to the driving public of America so most drivers don't really know how to interact with them. I particularly don't care for them either, as they seem to put them in places that don't make sense. For instance, they put in one at the exit off Interstate 17 off Happy Valley Road, which is quite a few miles north of Metro Phoenix. Now granted, 10 years ago it would have been fine. But now that the area's been developed (one of our major employers has their facility off that road and there's a shopping center up there now with a Petco & Circuit City and other stuff), it doesn't seem to make any sense especially the way people drive here.
So I opted for the lesser of all evils IMO with the traffic light. Most people know the difference between red and green, and when they don't here, the powers that be take a lovely picture of you that can cost you upwards of $185.

Re: Intersection poll
I choose the red light at 3 a.m. - makes me nostolgic for my home town. They still have a whole series of atavistic traffic lights on Market Street for the now non-existant rubber factory traffic... :P

Re: Intersection poll
I also went for the red light. Whilst it pisses me off when there's no one coming at 3AM it is the lesser of all evils.

Re: Intersection poll
I voted for the last option as well but do hate the 3 in the morning red light as well. Here they expanded the Broadmoor Hotel/Resort and as they expected more traffic they actually turned the 4 lane road going to and exiting the area down to a 2 lane road with roundabouts at every one of the five blocks....THAT is just stupid
