Breast Feeding in public - Is breastfeeding in public acceptable?

This issue blows up in Aus from time to time.

I voted yes. If it's gotta be done, it's gotta be done. No reason the kid should miss out. Or the Mum, for that matter.

Personally, I would have thought the nursing mother would feel more ill at ease in such a situation * than anyone who happens to look that way...?

Absolutely not. Unless you can be discreet about it, and the lactation nazi's aren't, I say no. If you can't be discreet, you need to locate a place nearby that isn't in full view of the general public.
Yes, it's a natural thing but so is taking a shit and I don't want to see that either.
And yes, I nursed both of my kids.

I guess I should have been a bit more specific. I didn't mean the people who make a point of doing it for the sake/show of it. I meant more along the lines of should it be allowable in public, or should it not ?

There are some elements of the community who would lock nursing mothers away, that was what i was more getting at, csme

I couldn't agree more. I also voted no. When I was out for dinner the other night a woman came into the restaurant and made a huge production of feeding her baby...it made us all uncomfortable. You could just tell she was thinking "just TRY and stop me".

I think it should be allowed. I have no problem with it in general. After all, no one made me sit in a bathroom, or leave the room when I fed my kids their bottles when they were babies. Who am I to dictate where a mother feeds her children?

But like Jon said, its when the women decide that its a "Try and Stop Me" thing that it bugs me.

It makes no difference to me, except when you start to make a big production out of it.

It's those "try and stop me" people fall under the same category as lactation nazi's.
I do not think nursing mothers should have to go into a bathroom at a mall to nurse. It's all in planning. For instance, I could guess-timate feeding times and would plan accordingly. If I knew that between 1 and 2 o'clock the baby would likely need to be fed I made sure I was prepared with a bottle or an appropriate place to nurse.
Has anyone noticed the one's that do it seemingly just to get a rise out of people (like in Jonman's post) that those women are the nastiest looking broads with big ol' saggy boobs?

Maybe. I think it is okay as long as you are properly covered and aren't making a big deal out of it. I know when I was breastfeeding, I had a blanket to cover me (no free preview, dammit

) and I did it discreetly. Somehow the thought of shouting out, "Hey, I'm gonna flop my tit out and feed my kid and you can't do a damned thing about it!" just really irks the hell out of me.

I think it should be allowed, but mothers should be discreet about it. I am with those annoyed by those nursing in public just to say they can.

I said yes, it should be allowed; I've seen people eat real food in public that really shouldn't go out to eat with their mannerisms.

nah not a good idea i nursed my kid and covered up too .... and still caught a teenaged guy trying to catch a peek i wanted to punch his lights out my exhubby said just squirt him and he will leave you alone but no way id have to say if i had another kid .... i wouldnt do it in public you can express your milk and give the kid a quicky bottle ya know lol
