Renegade Retro℠ Saturday Night All 80s Request ShowThe place for all the vital info for your Saturday night favorite! Post your comments and feel free to make your requests right here! And do try to remember the "ALL 80s" part when making those requests, mmmkay? Mmmkay.
When I started Renegade Retro almost 7 years ago, it was a very small effort. Less than 2000 songs, with the only software involved being Winamp and the Shoutcast DSP and Server software. And one of the first things I did was create a live show, which I wanted to be a request show where people could make requests since it couldn't be done otherwise.
Even after the station improved, and software was installed that allowed requests to be made at any time, the Request Show continued on as a staple of Renegade Retro, right through to current times. No matter how much the station improved or expanded, the Request Show has always been there on Saturday Nights in one way or another.
But it has increasingly become obvious to me that the Request Show has become very redundant. A host isn't needed when the system handles everything on its own now. And I think that I have become more of something people turn on for background noise on a Saturday night while they do other things rather than an entertaining host engaging the listeners as I used to.
So, I have decided to end the Saturday Night All 80s Request Shows run. This Saturday, April 14 will be the final All 80s Request Show. After that I will be off the next weekend, and then I may either stay off the air as a DJ, or will return with a new show. That part is up in the air.
It's been a good run, but if 7 years doing the same show is good enough for Star Trek, it's good enough for me. Thanks for being there, all!

I always enjoy hearing the djs, I love the personalities and it doesn't make me think that I am just talking to a computer.
Your show is/was appreciated by at least this one random listener, and I want to thank you for doing it for all these years.
It's actually alot harder then people think to come up with witty things to say between songs, especially when you aren't actually talking to any one person in particular. I was a dj in high school for a couple years and it always felt like I was talking to myself. lol Now I do that without the benefit of radio.
Anyways, I'm rambling, just wanted to thank you for providing a great show and station. Thundervamp, we salute you!
Although I will miss your on-air personality (you're the RR DJ who says "UHHHHHHHHHHHHH" the least), I totally understand and respect your decision. 'twas a good run! Thank you for the last 4 years of it.
I certainly hope you don't go "off the air" (Meaning no live show from Vamp). I hope you decide to start up another Live show! Before I became a DJ here, Part of the entertainment package for me was to hear comments from the DJ so I know there is a live person on the other end of the mic. Aside from all that, All 80s had an incredible run!
I know from my own perspective, I don't talk as much as I used to on Metal Shop, that's mostly cause I feel the songs speak for themselves. If I have something to Say I will, otherwise I talk a bit less.
The Live shows are more then music and the DJ's that play them, it's about the listeners, those who join in chat. You can tune in to Any radio station on the FM or AM Dial and not get that kind of "party feeling"! With Midas' shows, All 80s request, and finally Metal Shop, it was like a weekend long party that was Kicked off by Midas, put into full swing by Vamp, and Closed by yours truly! I hope that doesn't end with the disappearance of ThunderVamp9 from the RR Airwaves!

Wow. This really sucks, although I completely respect your decision. I hope this isn't final and you're only taking a "ross and rachel break". As for the dj's on this network, each one brings something different to the table Your listeners (including myself) are definately going to miss "The Saturday Night 80's Request Show". Please reconsider, but again, I completely respect your decision. Thanks for 7 great years of Saturday Night fun!
I do like the request format with the new website but I wouldn't consider you "redundant" or purposeless. Maybe you can come back after a hiatus with another cool show

Okay, got a bit more time to gather my thoughts...
Thom, first of all, sorry for not being in chat to be goofy and stuff last night, my friends were in town and I was talking to them, but we were listening to the show on Jess' computer and Jess was definitely in chat being Jess, and we enjoyed the music and your usual DJ coolness (my friends too). So your show definitely is not just background noise, and it is cool, and that's why we tune in every time we get the chance. Heck, I've turned RR into my worktime jukebox in lab The station is great, but it's not as cool without you personally manning a show.
Next, it seems to me that you feel that you are no longer relevant because of the software upgrades. Bull! You created the station, it's your baby, and your baby needs you to take care of it. The reason we tune in every weekend is not for the music itself, it's because of YOU. I can't speak for everyone but I like listening to you spout off about whatever random crap is entering your mind at that moment and even when you make fun of me (I probably deserve it, hehehe). I can tune in to your station anytime, but I reserve Saturday nights just for the show. Your audience may be small right now, but we're here, once again, because we actually like you and listening to you.
Finally, it's ultimately your decision to end the show, but I honestly hope you consider doing a monthly or bimonthly special show so that you're not completely absent from live broadcast on your own station. RR just isn't the same without TV9 spewing expletives in the dead of night
Good luck with whatever you decide, and we'll miss you.

Thom, your show was so great and I'm sorry I didn't particpate more, but I did enjoy it. It's sad that you want to take the request show off and that you seem to not feel appreciated, but you and the other DJS here are very much appreciated. RR is different because of the live shows. I'd rather hear a DJ do the music instead of just having a computer system. I hope this doesn't mean the end of you being on the air, because you have such a great voice.
I think you are quite funny Thom and will miiss your 80s request show very much. I would unfortunately miss the show more often then not though since Saturdays, the hubster would usually wanna go out and do something (like a late movie).
