Broadcasting Live From My Dining Room....

I thought I'd take the chance to show people the actual broadcast studio that Renegade Retro broadcasts out of, and the setup I do it all with.

Yes, it really is in my dining room...

The white computer on the top shelf that you can just see the bottom of is the actual station PC that runs the whole shebang. What you see on the screen is the broadcast software that controls every single thing you hear on the station except for the live voiceovers, which are fed in through the mic and mixing board. That software picks the music playing, handles the crossfading, the liners, the requests, normalizes the sound levels, encodes the broadcast and sends it out, everything. It's going to be getting a rather major hardware upgrade VERY soon, also.

This is my hobby. This is my baby. This is what I'll be losing if Congress doesn't repeal these royalty rate increases. And it's what you WON'T be seeing/hearing in that case.

I had that mixer ('twas my first one ever at age 15). You ARE a Renegade Retro! Old Skool Stylez!

Thanks for sharing. Maybe after I clean I'll post my crazy setup.

Re: Broadcasting Live From My DIning Room....

While I should have probably put this in the CGR forum, I figured I may as well post it here where someone might actually SEE it and where it can be surrounded by like-minded posts.

This is my little corner of the world where I broadcast PAGZ from every month. This is what is looks like before I start. The rack to the left normally holds all the CDs I use during a show. Among some of the odder items on the broadcast desk you may notice are a can of Spam, two plastic buffalo (one of which is standing on the Spam), a dud artillery shell my grandfather brought home as a "souvenir" from World War II, and a plastic model of the Pro Football Hall Of Fame as it looked in the late 1970's.

And this is what it normally looks like during showtime. Note the red star between the two posters. That's a laser show I recently put up. It cycles through various shapes.

Finally, this is a closer look at the Numark CD Mix-1 and microphone I use to broadcast. No mp3s here, just CDs. I prefer to do the entire show by hand. It would probably be easier to go to all mp3s but I wouldn't enjoy myself as much. The clipboard has the songs for the entire show printed out on it (although the new format I've adopted requires more than one page now).

There you go...a little peek into my low-rated live show!

Here's some rather blurry pics of my setup (I really need a digital camera vs this phone camera):

The light shined off my head and onto my monitor:

The DJ table to the left of the PC station:

A closer look at the Tascam X-17 Mixer and Numark CDN-22S dual CD player (of which is flanked by a Technics SL1200-MKII turntable on each side):

My shelf unit of 80's LPs, 12-inch singles and Remix Service vinyl:

My shelf unit of House and Techno 12" singles from the 90's and beyond:

Re: Broadcasting Live From My DIning Room....

You know, I was looking through these pictures again the other day and I finally realized what I like the most about the picture of Diofan's studio area.

It's the brightly shining CITY OF GLASS RADIO BANNER just as plain as day on his monitor. Way to go, dude. That's CLASS.

Oh, I know it's my signature. I'm just a huge fan of shameless self-promotion. With my numbers, I have to be.

Re: Studio pics...

Here's a couple pics of my new room/setup. Since the last pics I posted there are a couple changes. I cleaned up a computer desk/workstation that was in my old place's garage and my DJ equipment fits rather nicely onnit. Second, The Tascam mixing board I had in the last pics started shorting out mid-year last year so I bought a used backup mixer - the Stanton RM-80 (the silver center piece in the pics below). It has pretty much the same features as the Tascam, and I finally got a new crossfader for the unit a couple months ago. Third, for now I switched out the hypnotic Stanton slipmats for some blue crushed velvet ones. Finally, I got rid of the light-coloured shanty shelf unit and bought another that matches the dark-coloured unit full of 80's records:

This is the PC workstation during my show. I've had some cheap-ass lights from Spencer's for years and finally dusted them off and plugged them in. Although not as cool as NewRo's light show, it gives the room a small club/lounge feel:

One other plus about this new studio is that it stays MUCH cooler than the one in my old place.
