The influential hip hop/rap group Run DMC is being sued for copyright infringement by The Knack, which is known for such hits as “My Sharona”.

The lawsuit was filed last Friday by two of the members from The Knack, Doug Fieger and Berton Averre. These two claim that Run DMC stole parts of their 1979 hit “My Sharona”, including the famous guitar riff. Run DMC had allegedly used works from The Knack in their song “It’s Tricky” some twenty years ago.

The Knack is seeking compensation for all albums sold with “It’s Tricky” in the track listing from 1986.

The Ric Ocasek-produced Cars documentary, The Cars Unlocked, will be released on Oct. 17th. The DVD/CD package contains 20 previously-unreleased live clips with never-before-seen behind the scenes footage and a 14-track CD of live tracks.

Rush plan to regroup next month to finish pre-production on their next studio album. Recording will begin in November and they have 8 songs written for the album due out early next year.

According to a post on their official Web site by vocalist Joe Elliott, Def Leppard were working on new material while recording their recent covers album, Yeah!, and a new studio album could be released next year.

I don't know why I didn't realise that "My Sharona" was sampled in "It's Tricky". Ya think they would've gone after RUN-D.M.C. oh, twenty years ago?

Well, I have to wonder how they can possibly go after them through 1986. Isn;t there a statute of limitations? I think they can only go back 3 years. And how many album's with "It's Tricky" have sold over the past 3 years?

I re-purchased the 12" single of "It's Tricky" about 3 years ago. My first copy was stolen from me. I wonder if The Knack will shut up if I give them a dollar.
