For about the past 2 weeks, Ive been having a crappy problem with WinAmp. Ill listen to a station, and all of a sudden the track will catch and skip for about 2 seconds...it even does it during the live shows..it almost sounds like Max Headrooom took over the stations....you know?
The first time it happened, I thought it was just on the other end...but after a few tries of shutting down, and rebooting, it still does it.
Its very buggy...and I have no idea what the problem is.
Anyone else getting it?
And now its even worse. After 20 minutes tuned into CGR..its just flat cuts out and I have to restart.
I cant find anything on WinAmps site or Live365's....
Dammit.

Hi PG. All I know is that I used to have this problem constantly until I got ADSL. Since then it has been great.
The only other suggestion I have is what else do you have happening on the PC at the same time ? Is it possible that you have some resource-hungry background processes running at the same time ?

Taking your advice into consideration, after much picking and poking and prodding my software yesterday, I determined that yes, in fact, it was another program in the background.
I didnt think it was that much of a drain....but seems I was wrong!

Background programs are evil - they should be blown up

Little more useful info on winamp...If you get constant buffering you can increase the buffer memory.
Click options
Click preferences
Click plugins
Click input
Select mpeg audio decoder
Click configure > streaming
By default, winamp uses 64K, I increased it 4 times to 256K. Also, slide the prebuffer bar to a minimum of 25%.
Click OK.
You may buffer again, but it should smooth out. Also, it may take a few seconds longer for the stream to start, again, small price to pay for less stream buffers.

I'm having some issues with Winamp when I try to tune in to Renegade Retro. More than half the time I try to connect, it shows buffering before attempting to connect and then it doesn't, with the display flipping fast and the winamp module looking like it's searching for the station. Any ideas? I tried the thing Diofan said above and I've been able to connect only once twice since. It looks like I have v5.621 release July 11 2011.
